Our Association
Garua, Tango Association of Bilbao and Bizkaia, brings together tango enthusiasts of all levels and interests, offering a meeting place to learn, practice, dance, and enjoy through the organization of classes, social dances (milongas), performances, and special cultural events. Since 1995, we have been promoting regular, high-quality classes with renowned teachers with extensive experience in tango instruction.
Throughout all these years, we have also organized countless milongas, tango events, festivals, street dances, and special workshops with guest teachers.
Our purpose is to spread and promote tango, whether through classes, milongas, and tango events, or by collaborating with schools, teachers, institutions, and the media — making Garua a space for everyone who loves tango.
Garua is a non-profit association that runs thanks to the voluntary work and annual fees of its members. The organization is managed by a Board of volunteers elected by the members through a general assembly vote.
History of activities
Over these thirty years, we have held classes, workshops, milongas, festivals and tango gatherings, concerts, photo exhibitions, performances, and promotional videos.
All this in emblematic buildings and locations throughout Bilbao, such as El Boulevard, Hogar Navarro, Azkuna Zentroa (former Alhóndiga), the Casino of Bilbao, the Abando and Concordia train stations, Sala BBK, and Café Antzokia. We have also been in various hotels such as Avenida, Ercilla, Gran Hotel Bilbao and Indautxu in Bilbao, and the Igeretxe Hotel in Getxo and Orduña Plaza Hotel in that city. We’ve visited many municipalities of Bizkaia, especially on both sides of the estuary.
Finally, we’ve created various promotional videos about Bizkaia and Tango and a cultural fusion between Tango and Aurresku, among others, as well as photo exhibitions and collaborations in radio and television programs — rounding out a wide range of activities.
